Steamed Kale

Prep Time

5 minutes

Cooking Time

15 minutes

4 people

2 cups water
Pinch sea salt
1 bunch of kale

  • Put water, salt and a steamer basket in a medium-size pot and heat on high.
  • Wash kale.
  • Place several leaves on top of each other and roll like a cigar. Slice leaves in thin strips and chop smaller if you prefer. When you cook kale the stems can be left attached to the leaves.
  • When the water is boiling, add the kale, cover, lower the heat and steam for 3-5 minutes. Leaves should be wilted, yet bright green.
  • Carefully remove the steamer basket and transfer kale to a serving dish.
  • Notes

  • Enjoy the kale plain, or add a little tamari or lemon juice.
  • Try this same technique with collard greens, bok choy and mustard greens.
